The BJP government bestowed on Indians living elsewhere the citizenship of india on a platter. What kind of citizenship?Proving the dual character(characterless?!) of indians the Powers that be have attempted to ask those who have settled in US,UK etc., to be loyal to india. How can it be possible? Can anyone b loyal to two masters? If so,they are only selfish morons attired in the garb of patriotism and serving the interests of jingoistic people loitering around the corridors of power. Why media gives too much importance to those 'indian-americans' is also understandable. They belong to the same lot of logs soaking in the same gutter.Let the indians who go away go once for all.Duplicity must not be encouraged.
Has this appointment been approved by the 'secular' champions in India? Found any RSS/VHP connections?
It should be a matter of pride for Indians that a large number of Indian-Americans have been appointed to Obama-Biden transition team and in key positions at that. They have distinguished themselves in different fields and have literally earned their appointments. I only hope that some of our countrymen who are more concerned with "who is who?" rather than the fact that an Indian has made a mark by dint of his/her hardwork, do not start pulling the legs of those picked up for the top jobs as was relentlessly done in the case of a couple of Indian-Americans picked up earlier on the ground that they at one time or the other they were associated with charity work undertaken by some of the Hindu organizations in India.
BJP WAKE UP.....................IN AMERICA MANY INDIAN HAD BEING APPOINTED IN VARIOUS DEPT BY OBAMA, WHEN THE NAME OF SONIA GANDHI CAME THEY CRY......THAT SHE IS FOREIGNER............WHEN BJP WILL GROW UP..................
Sonia just carries a board belonging to the Gandhi family and so what great about it. This woman is totally detached to the problems in the country. Being a woman hasn't done anything to improve the social conditions of women in the society. She is a total waste of space .
These American- Indians got their positions on the basis of competence, not by being born into or married into some family. Really what was the qualifications of Indira, Rajiv etc. when they were appointed Prime Minister of India. Same is case with Sonia. She does not ahve any outside experience. What Indians should be demanding competence, not ethnic origin.
Parameshwaran M.K.That is not true about European Americans. One often hears Italo-Americans, Greek-Americans, Polish-Americans, Irish-Americans, etc.
Only in USA, it is mentioned as Indian American, African American etc. It may be because of U.S.A being a nation of migrants. But if it is Europeans, they are not called England Americans, French Americans , etc.
Is there any particular reason why they are referred to as Indian-Americans. If they have been born and brought up in India, they are Indians - if they have been born and brought up in America, they are Americans... There is no such thing as being an Indian American... Why does our press harp so much on some achiever in US being an Indian American? Are we projecting some form of intellectual superiority over the Americans? Or are we running out of socio-political role models and achievers in India, that we need to highlight those in the US?
Most 2nd generation Indians who are born in America do not care about India and Indians. They think its dirty and filty. They call us "Third world Nationals". And I am writing this becoz i have had many first hand experiences with such Americans of Indian origin. They say they will never think of settling in India. So yes they are Americans. They do not bring back anything to India. Fare enough. We also shouldn't attach oursleves so much with thier success etc
We (yes I include myself) Indians have to learn to take criticism constructively. Let's face it we have a long way to go when it comes to hygiene and sanitation. The third world is defined by at least one dictionary as developing countries of Africa, Asia, and Latin America collectively. India is still a developing country and is in Asia! Although we have made great strides in the last decade, we are still way behind when it comes to providing basic necessities e.g. Water, Electricity and Transport. Almost three quarters of our people live in poverty and our population keeps growing. This is indicative of progress in health care on the one hand, but lack of progress in eradicating illiteracy.
There IS such a thing as Indian American. Just as there is such a thing as African American or Italian American. I was born to Indian parents in Uganda and brought up in Tanzania. Does that make me a Ugandan or Tanzanian? I do not think so. My current nationality is British. Does that make me English or British? No. The only description I am comfortable with is British Indian. One does not have to run out of local role models before mentioning those who were born abroad.
