‘Sexually harassed’ civil servant transferred

Kolkata, February 19 The West Bengal government has transferred Mala Maitra — the Berhampore district information officer who had complained she was sexually harassed by Murshidabad district magistrate Subir Bhadra — to Kakdwip in South 24 Parganas.

Maitra had complained to the Principal Secretary of the department of Information and culture, Dilip Chakrabarty, about this a month ago. On Monday, she called a press meet and told reporters about her complaint to the secretary.

“She asked for a posting at some place near Kolkata and so we have transferred her to Kakdwip. And as far as her allegations against the DM are concerned, we are going to send her complaint to the personnel section of the Home department, so that they can take appropriate action,” Dilip Chakrabarty told The Indian Express.

In her complaint, Maitra had alleged the DM continuously sexually harassed her and she had even taken a long leave because of this.

The district magistrate has, however, denied the allegations.
