Rajita was so badly hit by her opponent on her face that she needed 15 stitches.
The absence of proper medical facilities at the venue and delay in getting an ambulance worsened the situation. There are 15 sites where the games are being held, but the department has no arrangement for either an ambulance or a doctor.
“There were no immediate medical arrangements made, and as we do not understand the language here properly, we really had to face harassment at the hospital too,” one of the coaches of Rajita’s team told Newsline.
At the hospital too, Rajita was initially given first aid and was discharged, but as her tongue did not stop bleeding, she was taken back to the same hospital within hours. It was only then that doctors decided to give Rajita 15 stitches.
“There is no need of more than one ambulance, as many casualties do not take place often in a day,” said S K Setia, Director Public Instructions (Sports). The DPI is responsible for hosting the tournament.
“Further, I have directed all the teachers on duty to take proper care of the participants and two doctors have also been appointed to take care of the participants form different states,” he said.
