Brisbane Fit-again all-rounder Shane Watson could make a quicker-than-expected return to the injury-hit Australian cricket team in the ongoing ODI tri-series against India and Sri Lanka.

Watson has missed the entire Test summer after injuring his hamstring in November but has steadily recovered. A decision on the 30-year-old's possible return could be taken in the next one day.

"We'll sit down and discuss after (ODI) game (against India) what to do with Shane. We wanted to see Shane play some cricket," said Australia coach Mickey Arthur.

"If he can come through a Shield game really well, then we'll take that point to the discussion table on Monday. We want to see a fit and firing Shane Watson."
