Sharad Pawar is Prime Ministerial material: Thackeray

Pune, January 22: Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray said NCP president Sharad Pawar was ‘Prime Ministerial material’ but the company of Congress had ‘tainted’ his image.

"Pawar who left Congress on the issue of Sonia Gandhi's foreign origin went back to Congress-led United Progressive Alliance for a Ministerial berth. I feel a man like him who has mettle and qualities is being wasted there," Thackeray said in an interview carried by Sena mounthpiece Saamna.

The Sena chief said he wanted a ‘Marathi’ to become the country's Prime Minister but the person at the helm should have a free hand to govern and should not survive on the patronage of Sonia Gandhi.

In response to a question about his recent meeting with Pawar, which had caused a flutter in political circles and raised eyebrows in the camp of Sena's saffron ally BJP, Thackeray came out with a cryptic comment saying ‘at present both of them seemed to vibe well with each other’.

"But when will this free flowing water (of current interaction) be chocked because of dirty politics cannot be said," he added.

Thackeray is basically a cartoonist and he has his own sense of humour and this statement about Pawar, is result of that sense of humour only.Neither the people nor Pawar should take it seriously.And if by any chance Thackeray is serious then I think his age is failing his intellect.

Bal Thackrey should remember that first all the Marathis and a huge number at that should be out of other states, before he talks of Marathi manoos. Same goes for the begger Bangali fascists of Amra Bangal hiding as communists

Marathis lost their true pride by Bharat on 22 Jan 2008

Marathis of today lost their true pride. What they practice today are real insult to Shivaji and the past. Look at Sarad Pawar, he left Congress to show he is a nationalist and not accept a foreigner as PM, and formed a party called Nationalist CP. But then what? He gone back to alliance with Congress and was even silent when Antonia Maino alias Sonia was trying to become PM. Is this called nationalism and Marathi pride? Sena, NCP and Congress supported a corrupt and scandelous woman called Pratibha Patil to become President. Thackeray ji, one must have certain principles and they must be practiced. Else, what is the difference between you and Laloo chor or Sonia mafia?

shiv sena is a regional party, and plays regional politics... What is this marathi marathi? just because patil was marathi, they voted in her favor.. Merit has no place for shiv sena.
