New Delhi, October 5: Dav Whatmore may have failed to bag the Team India coach's job but the Sri Lanka-born Australian now has an offer from the BCCI to take over as the Director Operations at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore.

The new NCA Chairman Ravi Shastri is in touch with Whatmore, who had successful coaching stint with Sri Lanka -- leading the side to their lone World Cup triumph in 1996 -- and Bangladesh, BCCI said in a statement.

It was Shastri's idea to rope in Whatmore for the NCA, which got the approval of Board President Sharad Pawar, it said.

After his stint with the Bangladesh team came to an end, Whatmore expressed his interest in succeeding Greg Chappell as the new India coach and was seen as a front-runner for the job before the board snubbed him.
