Thankfully, we reached before the guests could occupy seats in the restaurant. “I’ve always been interested in objects. I wanted to look at glass in an unusual way, captioning the pictures with common labels like Bottoms Up and Sensory Overload,” said Vaydehi. Ambitious. After all, how many different ways can you look at glass that you haven’t already? Agreed, teetotalers might have never have had the floor-up view, or, for that matter, acquainted themselves with cocktail glasses.
Blurred, saturated Holi-like colours, aurus tinted ash trays and unusual perspectives of glass - credit to the artist for all of them but perhaps it’s the shattered nature of glass that really needs another look. What is refreshing is that the artist says none of the images have been Photoshop-ed, a hark-back to the Analog Age.
That she has talent is undeniable—Vaydehi has two art shows with Contemporary Art-India for 2008 to be showcased in Calcutta and has exhibited for Earth on Canvas in Delhi - but maybe fresh perspective with a different subject perhaps.
(Camerawalli - All Glassy Eyed is on till February 15)
