It’s a new film on the floor, one that will be a launchpad for Shotgun’s son, Luv Sinha and Fareena Wazir. But what’s it all about? “Pre and post Partition and how two families come to terms with the cultures, how the gap between Hindus and Muslims is bridged,” city’s own, Vivek Shauq gives a sneak peek into the film which has one child left behind during Partition. “As for me, I play this mooh laga servant Haldi Ram to Rekha and Rishi, who provides all these quirky punchlines,” Vivek takes us back to Gadar days where he played a similar character in a similar setting. “Gadar was made at an anti Pak time, and people loved it for it gave a vent to their anger. But now, times have changed, there are talks of friendship and Sadiyan works on that.” For Sauq, if Gadar is relased today, he might not be appreciated in it. Bollywood’s given him a lot, but ask Shauq whether the big league still eludes him and he smiles, “yes, there are times....but then, we have the experimental cinema now, and I’m doing a film called Maharathi which has Naseer, Boman, Paresh and me, all character.” With actors getting dearer by the day, he calls this a blessing in disguise. “Raises our value!” Of course, Ulta Pulta days were nostalgic, and nothing could beat the issue-based satire, “what we have now are only jokes.” Roshan, Heroes, Krazzy 4, Shaadi Ke Side Effects....Shauq has his kitty full, and like a true spiritual person, has left it to God.
