Shinde was talking to the reporters on the sidelines of the 19 th convocation of Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth. "The country needs this deal to go on as it is of great importance to improve the power situation. We are making this deal happen in the interest of the country and we are optimistic that we will convince the left parties about the same," he said.
Shinde stressed t he need for the nuke deal to go through.
"We will be getting more power by means of nuclear energy. So, when some steps are taken in this regard, it should be supported. The chairman of atomic energy commission Anil Kakodkar has been instrumental in stressing the role of India in this context," he said. Kakodkar, who was also present, said the country is moving in the direction of self-sufficiency in nuclear energy.
