New Delhi A businessman was shot dead and one his accomplice injured in the national capital when unidentified men opened fire at them with police suspecting a financial dispute to be the motive behind the attack.

Unidentified assailants opened fire at Ankit Minocha, a resident of Mehrauli, and his friends when he stopped his car for having some water near Buddha Jayanti Park on Shanker Road in Chanakyapuri police station area at around 1:30 p.m.

Minocha and seven others had accompanied their friend Mahender to Karol Bagh to meet two car dealers -- Pushkar and Sushil Arora -- who allegedly failed to return Rs ten lakh they borrowed from Mahender.

Mahender, who went for collecting the money two days ago, and his friends had a heated argument with the car dealers in Karol Bagh today as they went again to meet them, a senior police official said.

After the argument, Mahender, Minocha and others returned in two separate cars. Minocha was driving a car with four others inside while Mahender was in another car.

When they reached near the park, Minocha stopped the vehicle to have some water while Mahender drove past them.

The assailants were following them and as Minocha stopped the car, they opened fire at them. Minocha was hit by two bullets -- one on his head and another on his back – while Surender, an occupant in the car, suffered a bullet hit on his back, the official said.
