Shopkeepers complain of lack of basic sanitation facilites in Manimajra market

Chandigarh, January 13 Even as the UT Administration and Municipal Corporation Chandigarh prepare master plans for development of Manimajra, nearly 200 shopkeepers of the Motor market in Manimajra are agitating for basic sanitation facilities. The area does not have a public toilet facility.

Area residents and shopkeepers complained that the authorities concerned ignore civic issues in Manimajra. Many of the shopkeepers said that despite numerous complaints, no measures have been taken by the authorities to correct the situation.”

Suresh Kumar, a shopkeeper, said the area also faces problem of inadequate water supply. He added, “The basic needs of the people have been ignored.”

Area Councillor Gurcharan Dass Kala said that the MC has already passed a Rs 4 crore proposal to construct public toilets in the area. Parking facility for vehicles will also be provided in the Manimajra Motor market. “Work on these proposals will begin soon,” he added.
