Amritsar, January 19: Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh on Friday claimed that before the general Parliament Election, cricketer turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu came to him and expressed his wish to join Congress Party.

Talking to the media persons, Jairam said that Sidhu visited his New Delhi based residence at 24 Akbar Road and said that he was keen to contest election of member Parliament from the Patiala constituency in Punjab.

Adding further he said that at that time Sidhu was adamant for Patiala seat as it could not be given to Sidhu to contest, since sitting MP Parneet Kaur wife of Captain Amarinder Singh was hot candidate from there. But when Sidhu was declined ticket from Pataila he did not join the Congress.

"I don't know what happened to him and Sidhu agreed to contest election from Amritsar Parliament on the ticket of BJP whereas, he was earlier adamant to contest from Patiala", said Jairam.

Sidhu by col a k tiwari,vsm on 19 Jan 2008

Is Jairam a Harishchandra and therfore never tells lies. This is typical diinformation by Congress, a buildup to the Lok Sabha elections. Sidhu is a nationalist to core. He will never even touch Congress with a tong.

Shady Sidhu isn't alone by Paramjit Bahia on 19 Jan 2008

This is what happens when voters vote for star personalities from sports or film Industry rather than on the basis of the candidate’s track record of serving the communities. All major political parties who themselves are also controlled on the basis of fiefdoms have encouraged this sad trend.Sidhu was a good cricketer but why his other criminal activities were overlooked by both political class and the voters themselves? Unless rather than moaning ordinary people themselves change the reasons for casting their votes they will keep on being represented by these shady slippery and unprincipled characters and the nation will keep on going to the dogs.
