Patiala, July 06 Says is in hospital for food poisoning; claims no problem in her marriage

Brushing aside rumours that she had tried to commit suicide, wife of cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Sidhu, Navjot Kaur, today claimed that she had no issues with her husband and was in hospital following a stomach upset. The former cricketer, meanwhile, claimed that all was well as far as his relations with his wife were concerned and they are “a happy couple together”.

Navjot Kaur was hospitalised on Saturday after she was suspected to have consumed some poison.

Having an ice-cream in her ICU bed, Navjot Kaur told The Indian Express that she had no one to blame for her condition and it was a natural cause. “I never tried to commit suicide and there is no problem in my marriage,” she said in the presence of her husband, who was busy attending to her. “I am happy in my marriage,” she stressed.

Talking to The Indian Express after spending a couple of hours with his wife in the hospital, the BJP MP said he had rushed from Amritsar after his wife was taken ill. “My friend Bunny Sandhu called me up on Saturday and told me that Navjot was in hospital following a serious stomach upset and I rushed to Patiala as soon as I got the phone call,” he claimed.

Navjot Kaur has been admitted to Lehal Colony-based Sadbhavna Medical and Heart Institute, where doctors attending on her confirmed that she was admitted in a serious condition, but is out of danger and would be discharged on Monday. “Her condition is fast improving and though there were traces of something poisonous, I suspect it was only food poisoning and nothing more,” said head of Sadbhavna Hospital, Dr Sudhir Verma.

Navjot Kaur is a government doctor posted in Patiala and has been stated to be under depression for the past some years and was even taking anti-depression drugs.

Sidhu has postponed all his assignments till Monday and would be in Patiala till his wife gets discharged on Monday from the hospital. “I have commitments in Mumbai and would leave after Monday evening,” he said.
