Amritsar, February 19 Following a report published in The Indian Express on February 6 relating to a local couple, Sanjay and Meenakshi Rogers, accusing a relative of confining their teenage daughters illegally, the district administration has, with the help of the police, tracked the children to Delhi. Their aunt Sonia Rogers (32), with whom the sisters were, has agreed to bring them to Amritsar on March 3.

The couple had alleged that their daughters Rinnie (14) and Rhea (11) were secretly and forcibly taken away by their aunt Sonia, an air hostess in Delhi.

“We were able to track down the sisters. Sonia Rogers told us they are safe and well. We want the children to be presented before the parents, but Sonia has demanded two weeks’ time as their exams are on. A datesheet relating to the exams has been sent to us and I have fixed March 3 as the date for the re-union of the family. The opinion of the children will be sought if they want to continue staying with their aunt or return home,” said Amritsar DC Kahan Singh Pannu.

Pannu has also ordered the district police to register a case against Sonia Rogers on the couple’s complaint.

Sanjay Rogers told ENS, “My sister is unmarried and is away for days due to her flight schedules. The children must be homesick in Delhi. Moreover, she changed her address and phone numbers. The last time she called, she said we should forget our children. How is this possible?”

On the other hand, Sonia Rogers, when contacted on phone, said she was not alone and her mother also lived with her. “My brother and sister-in-law misbehaved with my mother and me several times. They used to beat up the children, which is why I took them away,” she said.

Her friend and Ludhiana-based social worker Preeti Kansal also told ENS that when she tried to mediate between the two parties, she was threatened by Sanjay and his friends with dire consequences.
