New Delhi THE site for a second campus of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will be finalised by the end of this week, sources in the Health Ministry maintain.

The Haryana Government has offered approximately 300 acres of land at Badsa village near the Kundli-Manesar Expressway for setting up the second campus.

“The Health Ministry officials have been meeting representatives from the state Government for the last three days. Another meeting is scheduled for Friday. We are expecting a decision soon,” said a senior official in the Health Ministry.

A team from the Health Ministry had visited Badsa village to inspect the site for AIIMS on Wednesday.

The team reportedly liked the site, and it seems likely that the second campus of AIIMS will come up near Gurgaon.

According to sources, Joint Secretary of the Union Health Ministry B N Prasad discussed the geographical and social aspects of the area.

The Central Government has been looking for a suitable site to establish the second campus of AIIMS as the 50-year-old institute's infrastructure faces tremendous pressure due to patient overload.

Approximately 9,000 patients visit the institute every day from all over the country for treatment and a second campus is aimed at reducing the load on the main AIIMS campus.
