"The situation is not good at all, but the state government has started taking strong measures," Sister Nirmala told reporters after meeting Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
She hoped that the state administration would continue to work to contain the violence.
During her talks with the Chief Minister, she said, they talked about the need for return of peace in tribal-dominated Kandhamal district.
The violence there has claimed at least 35 lives and houses and churches were burnt after the killing of the VHP leader Laxmanananda Saraswati and four others on the night of August 23.
Asked whether she had faith in the Orissa government, Sister Nirmala said, "I have faith. Having faith encourages one to do good work."
On the allegations by some Hindu organisations that Christians had engineered the attack on Saraswati, Sister Nirmala said it was the work of the police to find the truth.
"That is for the the police in Orissa to ascertain. Truth must prevail," she said.
The nun who was allegedly gangraped during the Orissa bandh on August 25 and was missing would return to the state if there was a 'proper' atmosphere, she said in reply to a question.

I understand we should not talk about only christians suffering, we should bring forward the conversions they have been doing and punish them. But, we all are forgetting one thing, the main reason someone is ready to be converted. If I am hungry, do not have anything to wear, can not see any future and someone comes to me and say I will give you everything, I will give you money just start calling yourself Anne Marie instead of AnnaDurai and start calling your god Jesus. If my own state and my own government does not help me why should'nt I take option. Give them food, shelter help in case of need and get rid of the basis behind anyone trying to convert them. The base line is our government never cared for these people till they were hindus. Suddenly they see all the minority population increasing and think of opening their eyes. Government should start taking care of poor hindus to stop such acts.
In the last several weeks, dozens of Christians have been killed and over hundreds injured. It is reported that Christians are foced denounce Christianity and accept Hinduis or else they will be killed. These stupendously anti-humanity acts are not only appalling, but are also macabre, revolting, disgusting, vile and inhuman acts of violence that are big blots of shame on the secular and democratic fabric of the Indian Constitution. It is shame that on the land of the Mahatma who learnt non-violence from Bible, where it is sacred mantra, violence is so unashamedly, unabashedly, and unabatedly propagated, instigated, and supported by VHP and Bhajaran Dal groups. Christians are peace-loving community and abhor violence of any kind. The ongoing violenace against Christians is not only injustice personified, but also is a demonic form of a great crime against humanity. This violence has to be stopped immediately and peace, love and harmony have to be restored without any further delay.
It is the biased missionaries controlled media responsible for precipitating the Orissa and Karnataka issue to satisfy their bosses and pseudo secularist. If the missionaries are truely following the teaching of Christ and believe in Truth then they will not go on spreading utter lies on what is happening in Orissa. They should understand that there is limit for tollerance and forbearance on the paert of average Hindus and should not be taken for granted any more. They should stop their number game forreaching their political goal.It should not be at the cost innocent lives wether of Hindus or converted Christians.India is bleeding and all these viloence for nefarious goals of their Vatican design should be stopped .You can convert people by giving money, job or emotional support but it is not eternal as those who are benefitted will never get satisfied with one time support .Sister Nirmala who is a convert by herself should convey this message to her Vatican bosses.
People are trying to justify violence with conversion. Why can't government take the conversion issue to the judiciary and any forced conversion should be a punishable act. All Christian missionaries are not converting people but all are attacked by mob. No Indian can justify what happened in Orissa and some even justify the rape of nun. What is the difference between terrorists and these people? Both are targetting innocent people.
the root ofthe problems lie at conversions by lies, trickery and money. Why are you'll shying away when the conversion topic comes up? face the truth my friend, all violence is only due to the forced conversions. Stop conversions and live and let live
We must not be biased towards one community only. Why arent the media and pseudo intellectuals like Teesta Setelvad, Shabana Aazmi, Mahesh Bhatt and Javed Akhtar only sheeding tears at Orissa violence and not condemning the death of swamiji which as per media reports seem to have been masterminded by maoists in collussion with some fundamentalist christians. Why is only Bajrang Dal then a terrorist organistaion and not these evalangical groups
Dharma is India's gift to the world as it had its origins in Indian civilization. It is truly practiced in spiritual sense in India. Unfortunately, christianity constitutes an organized religion, unlike Hindu Dharma, that his highly structured and has political objectives. Given the political objectives of christianity, it has lot of money available for conversion, from businesses and political parties, which is dangerous for India. What christians need to understand is that organized religion is anti-thesis to very spirituality that it pretends tom teach. It would be a loss to the world if Hindu Dharma is destroyed by christian missionaries with political objectives. Hindu Dhrama should be allowed to live in the l;arger interest of humanity because no other religion has vedic scriptures that have the highest support for morality. Keep off India in the larger interest of humanity as Christians alone had world wars, India had none.
Mr. Bharat wht the hell r you talking about. It doesn't make sence. Are u a hindu fanatic, Shame on you if you r talking about
whatever the orissa govt declare now it would have to be enforced by law that the kandhamal should be free from conversion now onwrads.if the peace is to be prevailed and permannet the kandh tribals should be given their rights, lands and jobs.the christians are welcome only to serve the poor but not to preach their religeon. once they stop conversion then the situation will be normal and peace would be restored.
Is that a new constitution of India which sounds similar to that of Taliban that you have in mind? No progressive society interferes with religious faith of any individual. Every civilized and open society grants religious freedom to propagate and practice. It gives individual right to choose one’s faith. It’s nobody’s business on which faith one practices or why one changes to adapt a different faith. All religion attempts only to bring humanity and brotherhood into this world. If you do understand this, then what ever the reason, no one would justify violence, let alone the shame that perpetrator of violence bring to their religion they follow.
The forcible and violent means adopted by christian missionaries across the country do not even get a mention in any media. Why this bias against hinduism.
hinduism is a politics in disguise of religion it devides the human soceity in varna
