New Delhi, December 5: Six people suspected to be militants of Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islamia have sneaked into Delhi from Deoband in Uttar Pradesh possibly to carry out attacks, sparking a state of high alert in the national capital ahead of anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition on Thursday.

Intelligence Bureau inputs to Delhi police said the six people entered Seelampur area of East Delhi on Wednesday and could possibly carry out strikes in the national capital, police sources said.

The six militants travelled in a white car with a fake registration number from Deoband in Western Uttar Pradesh, the site of the Darul Uloom seminary, to Seelampur area, the sources said.

While one of the passengers travelling in the car was stated to be of African origin, two were believed to be Afghan nationals and the remaining locals, the sources said.

A thorough check was carried out in Seelampur which prominently figured during investigations into recent serial blasts in courts in three cities of Uttar Pradesh--Lucknow, Faizabad and Varanasi.

Police put up barricades along all important crossways and a thorough screening of vehicles was conducted. Suspected pedestrians were being questioned.

The information about sneaking in of the militants comes barely two days after an alert was issued by intelligence agencies that suspected HuJI militants may carry out strikes on or around December 6, the day on which Babri Masjid was demolished in 1992.
