Ludhiana, November 12 Laboratory tests of six samples, five of which were collected on November 3 by the team of Health Department, failed to meet the specified quality standards here today.

A sample of milkcake that was taken from New Goel Sweets Supplier at Dana Mandi on October 31 also failed to pass the tests. Food Inspector Manoj Khosla informed that reports of many samples are still pending.

The team of Health Department had raided 13 shops on November 3 and collected samples of various food items, including those of khoya. Five shops whose samples have failed include Khalsa Sweets in Division 3, Gentleman Sweets at Pratap Chowk, Dhoda Sweets at Ghumar Mandi, Sharma Sweets at Model Town and Aman Sweets at Salem Tabri.

Civil Surgeon Satpal Sharma said that shop owners whose samples have failed have been booked under the Prevention of Food Adulteration (PFA) Act, and will be produced before the judicial magistrate.

In another case, Chief Judicial Magistrate Rajinder Aggarwal passed a verdict on Nichhatar Singh, who was booked under the act on March 22, 1999. He has been convicted for adulteration in milk and has been sentenced to six months imprisonment with a fine of Rs 1,000.
