In a meeting with the Delhi Chief Secretary on Tuesday to review poll arrangements, EC officials found the government slow in implementing measures required to conduct polls, sources said. The Commission had issued the directions to the government in September.
The EC found the government had appointed only 4,684 booth officers against a requirement of 10,829. Officials required for supervisory work of electoral roll revision were also lesser than required, sources said.
Sources said the database of manpower available with the government and civic agencies like NDMC, MCD has still not been made available to the election officials.
Moreover the government transferred many officials associated with electoral roll revision during the exercise, in violation of policy instructions and prior concurrence of the Commission.
This, despite the matter being brought to the notice of the Chief Secretary and the L-G, officials said.
The Commission has now directed the state government to take necessary steps immediately to ensure the required administrative and infrastructure support arrangements are in place before polls.
The Commission has also decided to hold another meeting with the government officials shortly, officials said.
