If one goes to chennai, almost everyone speaks in tamil and it is the same in calcutta(bengali). That is the way to go as it helps to preserve the diversity and intergrity of the country. Superimposing one language onto others will create other complications. In fact the issue of culture and jobs are interlinked with the issue of language. If today there is a eruption of problem in Maharastra, I am pretty sure it will be Karnataka or some other state in western part of india like gujerat in the near future. I think time has come for the govt. of india to re-examine its language policy. Hindi might be an easy language to learn but it also has the ability to destroy other regional languages in its growth. Look at the status of the film industry in northern and western part of india. Indian need an indian language to communicate with each other. Ideally it should be sanskrit which can grow if nurtured and also allows others regional languages to flourish as well.

What is happening in Maharasta is a warning to the rest of india. Superimposing one's culture and language on others just because you have the numbers is a very bad move. It will have severe repercussion on the country later on. Actually taking away of jobs from locals and giving it away to outsiders at lower wages is easier to solve than the issue of culture and language. What has been happening to India in the last decade or so is that the hindi language taken its hold in most parts either by subtle force or out of people's need . The language has been misused and is creating a lot of ill-feeling, slowly, in different parts of India. In Maharastra, the anti-hindi feeling momentum has been building over the years and now it has become clear. ALL OUTSIDERS in Maharastra have to learn and respect the marathi languague and its culture. Getting into the habit of speaking hindi whenever one wants to communicate is not the way to go. Attempt must be made to speak in the local language.
