Mumbai, October 27: Passengers narrating the shooting incident in a BEST double-decker bus on Monday said the person from Patna, holding a gun, kept on shouting that he had come to Mumbai to take on MNS chief Raj Thackeray.

One of the commuters said that the 23-year-old gunman identified as Rahul Raj, went on screaming subsequently that he had nothing against the passengers and only wanted to ‘take on’ Raj Thackeray.

"He (Raj) then made some passengers write in chits, and kept on dropping it from the bus stating that he had come to attack Raj Thackeray. The person also kept demanding for a mobile phone," the terrified passengers said adding that the gunman was later shot dead by the police.

Recounting the terror, another passenger, Abdul Rashid Sheikh, said, "I was sitting on the upper deck of the bus when I heard some screams... I saw this man (Raj) trying to strangle the conductor with some kind of a chain and then he let him go... After that he shot one of the passengers for no reason."

"All of us ducked down under the seat and we were very scared since we didn't know if the police was to start firing," Sheikh, an employee with a local bank and a resident of suburban Andheri, who was travelling with his wife Rafia, said.

"There were nearly 15 passengers on the upper deck of the bus. He first tried to take my wife out but then apologised to her, seeing she was woman, and said that he (Raj) would escort her out of the bus," Sheikh said.

"I refused to let her (Rafia) go since I was scared that she could be hit in any crossfire that might take place," the bank employee, who was taking his wife to visit a doctor, said.

"We then heard some sounds of shooting and later heard that he (Raj) was dead," Sheikh added.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police Milind Bharambe said that the gunman repeatedly asked to speak with the City Police Commissioner and also wanted to kill Raj Thackeray.

"We found two (currency) notes, a fifty rupee and a ten rupee, on which it was written, "I only want to kill Raj Thackeray and no one else," Bharambe said.

The currency notes were recovered from near the bus when the hostage drama was unfolding.

What Biharis do Best by AN on 27 Oct 2008

Ha! After all this is what Biharis do best. They brandish weapons, loot poll booths, kill innocent farmers and rape/ molest their daughters. Thats what we in Maharashtra have always been saying, allow more Biharis and turn this beautiful state into a 'Wild West'. This strengthens our view that biharis should not be allowed into not only Maharashtra, but into any other state in India. Assam is another example of a state having tired of this menace.

"Biharis Should Take Revenge" by SMSingru on 27 Oct 2008

I am totally amazed at the reponse of "A Bihari" exhorting Biharis to take revenge for the killing of Rahul Raj who, as per his own statement, had wanted to kill Raj Thakeray and was brandishing

Separate Bombay from Maharashtra to resolve this issue by Mona Sharma on 27 Oct 2008

Maharashtra Police and Courts have pushed state into civil war by not arresting Raj Thackeray and his goons. Scarred courts left Raj Thackeray unpunished. Raj Thackeray could have been arrested under the charge of waging war against India but shrewd Marathi police did not do so. We will speak Hindi who are Marathis to force us to learn Marathi language. Bombay has been developed all Indian Tax Payers money and it belongs to all Indians.

No Violence Please by Ashok on 27 Oct 2008

I am a non-maharashtriabn and I believe that this is not teh way to show your disagreement of what Raj did.Raj used violence does not means that every body should use it.

Maharashtra Police and Courts are working under Influence of Raj Thackeray and Marathism by Mrs Bhanumati on 27 Oct 2008

Violence creates more violence. Marathis must apologize to Hindi Speaking people for supporting Raj Thackeray's linguistic terrorism. State government should come up with a white paper how much jobs are given to Marathis. Marathis are talking about discrimination against them in Railway jobs but they forgot that discrimination was sponsored by Maharashtra govt and opportunities were denied to Hindi Speaking people in last 50 years. 95% jobs are occupied by Marathis in Bombay. UPA government has been sponsoring Islamic terrorism and Congress government and Marathis has been sponsoring regionalistic and linguistic terrorism in Maharashtra. Police and courts are siding with them. Common men do not have any option left but take on Islamic and Marathi terrorism in the country. Only solution is separate Bombay from Maharashtra to free it from clutches of linguistic and regionalistic terrorism.

Slain Gunman Wanted to....... by Dharam Pal Karkara on 27 Oct 2008

Please, the leaders of this country kindly see reason and stop arousing passions which will make the country burn and push it into a kind of civil war. Let the police and the administration do their work honestly and resolutely and donot seek to demoralise them. If some body was creating terror and the police shot him there was no need to react violently as Bihar leaders have done. If a man with criminal intentions has been eliminated and so many eye witnesseses support police apprehensions it can be a matter of enquiry but not of political outcry. The leaders have to change their mindset. Supporting lawlessness or making heroes of criminals can not bring glory to them, the country or the state. It is now the time to put our heads together and see a solution to the turmoil we have pushed the country into and try to see every Indian as the son of the soil and not think of them as Biihari, Maharashtrian, Tamil or Punjabi, Hindu or Musalman, christian or Sikh. D.P.Karkara-Kurukshetra.
