Also dressed for the occasion in tuxedos and beautiful frocks were the two 'salims' and two 'Latikas', who were visibly excited to be present at the greatest awards night in Hollywood.

"Bohat achcha lag raha hai," 10-year-old Azhar Mohammed Ismail, who hails from a Mumbai slum and plays youngest Salim said.

Tanay Chheda, who plays the middle Jamal, translated the host's questions in Hindi for Ismail, who said he did not know English.

Chheda summed up for everyone and said "it is unbelievable, it feels really good."

From answering questions about what they were wearing to how it feels to be on the red carpet, the children excitedly waived.

"I could not have thought that I would be here in Hollywood and on the red carpet and that the movie would do so well," said the youngest Jamal, Ayush Khedekar.

Rubina Ali Qureshi, who plays the youngest Latika excitedly answered questions about from where she bought the frock she was wearing.

Ashutosh Gaajiwala, who plays the middle Salim and Tanvi Lonkar, the middle Latika too helped translate the questions for the little children and answer them.

Spotted on the red carpet were Anil Kapoor and A R Rahman.

Boyle, the Oscar-nominated director of the film, said "Some of the cast comes from very poor families in India.

The children are particularly excited and have been practicing their English for the interviews on the red carpet," as he pointed to the children playing to the gallery and giving interviews to television hosts on the red carpet.
