Soch ’08: Rock performances mark second day

Chandigarh, January 19 Testing the gift of the gab, showcasing creativity and some rocking performances - the second day of Soch ‘08 at the Department of Mass Communication, Panjab University, had it all.

The day began with limericks where the participants had to compose a five-line humorous non-sensical poem and then recite it. The theme was provided on the spot. This was followed by a photography, cartoon and collage exhibition.

In this exhibition, the entries received for the event like photographs, cartoons and collages made on the first day were showcased. Documentaries and films received specifically for the event were also screened.

A member of the team involved in the making of the documentary was asked to give an account of it. This was followed by screening of short films composed as a part of the short filmmaking competition held on Friday.

In the later half of the day, events like street play where seven participant teams satirically addressed social issues like depletion of water resources, female feoticide, dowry, and talk-jock where participants had to script a show, anchor it and handle hypothetical audience phone calls.

The attraction of the day was the “Rock Night” held at Law Auditorium. Bands like ‘Wasted Soul’ who have also played at Yamaha Rock All Asia Idols, ‘Harmonic Friction’ who have performed at PEC Fest, ‘Seraphim’ who have won the Campus Rock Idols various times in the past, ‘Shell Shocked’ who have bagged titles at events like NIT Jalandhar Rock show, DCET Cyanide Rock Idol ‘06, ‘ G.O.D’ who have consistently being playing at Mission, performed and enthralled the audiences.

The bands played various genres of music including metal, alternate rock, classics, old school types, heavy and trash metal.
