Ahmedabad Brother of Sohrabuddin Shaikh, who was allegedly killed in a fake encounter in 2005, has claimed that police had tried to kidnap him.

Rubabbudin said he had informed Madhya Pradesh Police chief about the issue.

"On January 29 around 10.30 pm, a group of policemen had gathered in my house in Jharania village (some 50 km from Ujjain city in Madhya Pradesh) and asked me to come with them.

I asked them about the purpose but they did not answer me. So I kept my doors closed," Rubabbudin told PTI over phone.

"I have written to the Madhya Pradesh DGP after there have been several attempts by the local police to intimidate me," he said.

Sohrabuddin was killed in a fake encounter on the outskirts of the city in November 2005. His wife Kausar Bi was later allegedly killed and her body was disposed off.

Rubabuddin said he even tried to contact the local police station for help but all the officers there were on leave.

He said people from his village came to his rescue after he called for help. The policemen seeing the villagers ran away, he said.

Rubabuddin claimed he was advised bed rest after an operation and was confined to his house in Jharania for over couple of months.

It was Rubabuddin who filed a habeas corpus petition in the Supreme Court, asking to produce the body of Sohrab's wife Kausar Bi. And upon the inquiry commissioned by the court, three IPS officers including D G Vanzara and 11 other policemen from Gujarat and Rajasthan were arrested in 2007 in the fake encounter case.
