Pune, March 29 The Southern Command headquarters on Saturday organised a ‘Soldiers’ Walking Plaza’ programme on M G Road. The wives of army men employed in the various units in Pune put up stalls in which embroidery, soft toys and clothes were displayed. The public was treated to live performances by the martial and jazz bands of the army. The event also featured a performance from Bollywood actor Rati Agnihotri. The Plaza was busier than usual, with several army personnel and their families deciding to explore the ‘Fauji Walking Plaza.’ “The response has been good. In a very short time, we have already made Rs 2,000,” said havaldar G V R Reddy of Nabhrakshak Stall, which sold pickles and pouches. The proceeds from the event will be used for the welfare of soldiers and their families and students of the ASHA School for special children.
