Chandigarh, January 15 Paying tribute to the valiant soldiers of the army who laid down their lives for the country, Lt Gen A N Aul, Chief of Staff, HQ, Western Command, laid a wreath at Veer Smriti, the Command war memorial at Chandimandir today to commemorate Army Day. A large number of senior officers, JCOs and other ranks were present to pay homage.

Every year, the army celebrates January 15 as Army Day, commemorating the day on which Field Marshal K M Cariappa assumed command of the Indian Army 60 years ago.

The Indian Army has stepped into 2008 with a vow to successfully execute any assignment entrusted to it, be it on the borders, in counter insurgency, natural calamities or abroad, in support of UN missions.

On this day, the Army re-dedicates itself to be a part of the ‘War Winning Team’ with a resolve to attain resounding victory in the true spirit of the motto ‘fight to win’.
