Somani sizzles for Maharashtra

Mumbai, February 17 Riding on Sanam Somani's splendid performance on top board, Maharashtra claimed the under-19 team chess gold in the 53rd National School Games, held at Guwahati from February 12 to 15. There were 14 state teams in the fray.

Somani, the 17-year-old student of the Mithibhai College, Vile Parle, won four out of six matches on top board. He lost one while drew the other. Maharashtra finished on top with 20.5 points. Tamil Nadu took silver with 19.5 points while bronze went to Andhra Pradesh (16).

Gaurav Konde, Chinmay Kulkarni, Salil Rabade and Ajinkya Paithne were other team members.
