New Delhi, July 22: In a display of continued defiance, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee made light of reports that he would be in the post till the completion of the trust vote this evening.

"Did I say month and year," he shot back when reporters asked him about a reported statement of his that he would be in office till July 22.

Asked whether he would be resigning from the post, Chatterjee said "certainly, I will not announce it here". Chatterjee has been under pressure from his party CPI (M) to quit the Speaker's post ever since the Left parties withdrew support to the UPA government.

POWER IS A NECESSITY OF INDIA. I DON'T THINK THERE IS ANY HARM FOR INDIA ENTERING INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH US BY SAFE GUARDING OUR NATIONA'S INTERESTS. THE LAW MAKERS IN INDIA SHOULD THINK TOGETHER FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE NATION. THEIR VIEWS AND SPIRIT FOR THE NATION SHOULD BE ABOVE THEIR PERSONAL INTERESTS AND INTEREST OF THE POLITICAL GROUP OR RELIGION THEY REPRESENT. EACH INDIAN IS BORN OF ONE MOTHER - INDIA.WE ARE ON THE PATH OF DEVELOPMENT AND ALL INDIANS SHOULD WORK TOGETHER FOR POSITIONING INDIA IN THE FORE-FRONT AS DREAMT BY OUR FORMER PRESIDENT DR. A.P.J. ABDUL KALAM. THANKS TO OUR FREEDOM FIGHTERS AND OUR FORMER LEADERS WHO HAVE PAVED WAY FOR US TO WALK FEARLESSLY.
