In accordance with Corbusier’s original vision, the Museum of Knowledge will function as a decision-making or briefing centre for government officials.
It will have laboratories where large quantities of information related to current problems would be assembled, processed and presented through various audio-visual means so as to aid in taking high-level decisions.
The museum will have offices, workshops, laboratories, exhibition rooms and a state hall for official receptions. It will function according to four fields of concentration: technical, sociological, economic, and ethical. The building will be provided with four main laboratories, each with own attendant facilities.
“The City Beautiful functions more as a tricity now comprising Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali. In the coming years, the exponential growth of Chandigarh will not be in isolation of the three settlements. So we propose to shift the material, which is at present displayed in the Chandigarh History Museum at Sector 10, Government Museum & Art Gallery complex, to the MoK building in the Capitol Complex,” said UT Home Secretary Krishna Mohan.
The function of the MoK will be to display all the existing as well as proposed materials, memoirs, documents, and drawings pertaining to the inception, growth and future development of Chandigarh in relation to the tricity region in an interactive and visitor-friendly manner.
A cafeteria on the roof top will enable a panoramic view of the Shivalik Hills and the Capitol Complex. This is likely to attract visitors, particularly foreigners, to the museum. Also on the cards is accommodation for visiting scholars from India and abroad.
