The decision is part of a larger exercise by the state government to formulate a policy for the unorganised labour force, pegged at over two crores as per the latest round of the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) data.
Of the total, 67 lakh are in the non-agricultural, mainly urban sector, while the rest are engaged
in the rural agricultural sector, according to the
figures.
Now, the Labour department will carry out a detailed survey based on NSSO statistics and come out with a welfare policy for the unorganised force, according to a department statement.
To be supervised by the Industries department, the exercise will use Below Poverty Line (BPL) data from the Rural Development department and carry out photography of screened individuals for the biometric cards.
The survey will also include those in the labour force who engage in temporary and seasonal occupations, and migrate for the work.
