The Bomai Coordination Committee that has been spearheading the agitation in Bomai from past one month said that the protests have been postponed for five days.

“Now that the Chief Minister Omar sahib has promised to shift the Army camp-responsible for killing of two civilians on February 23- we have decided to postpone the protest,” the spokesman of the Coordination Committee Abdul Rashid said. “The decision to postpone the mass migration which was to begin from today was taken late last night after Deputy Commissioner forwarded CM’s promise to the committee members.”

For the last one month, the Bomai village in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district has been protesting the killing of two civilians, Muhammed Amin Tantray and Javid Ahmed Dar who were killed when troops of 22 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) opened fire on devotees at Bomai village. A magisterial inquiry had indicted Army personal in the killing. The Army inquiry too indicted a junior commissioned officer and two soldiers of the Rashtriya Rifles who will face disciplinary action in connection with the killing of two youths in Bomai.

The residents of the village have been holding massive protests in past one month demanding shifting of the RR camp from the village.

The spokesman of the committee said protest has been suspended for five days. “We are not calling off our agitation. If they will not remove the camp during these days, we will not wait for any other assurances,” Rashid said.
