The condition of the programmes is to re-impose user-charges on water and sewerage connections so that organisations concerned are sure about the recovery of their loans.
The issue of re-imposing user-charges on Ludhiana consumers was raised in today's Municipal Corporation general House meeting. Senior deputy mayor Parveen Bansal said, "This item should be re-considered and the government should re-think before imposing user-charges."
Mayor Hakam Singh Giaspura said the item would be sent to the government once again.
Notably, Rs 2,093 crore have been approved for Ludhiana Municipal Corporation for various development works under Jawaharlal National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), while the rest of the amount is for Amritsar. So far, no money has been released for both the cities as sops have not been withdrawn.
Ludhiana MC has admitted that they had been facing a revenue loss of Rs 40 crore per annum because of free water and sewer supply. Many projects are suffering due to lack of funds.
