Soul Fare

Geeta Chandra insists that her establishment Moonbeam at Moti Bagh’s upmarket residential area is a spiritual and holistic centre. “If it was a shop, we would be in a market, would have walk-ins and would be making a tremendous profit,” says Chandra, 41.

Moonbeam is shaped like a cosy cave, stocking things like weather-resistant wind chimes “tuned to the seven notes of music”, camphor lamps that dispel negative energy, aroma pillows, energy pillows and Tibetan incense sticks. “Everything is a stress-buster, to help people relax,” says Chandra, pointing to a pack of incense sticks encased in a bamboo container with bells attached for good luck. If you want something soulful for housewarmings and birthdays, get ready to spend Rs 750 for a package.

“I started this to de-clutter my life,” says Chandra about the nine-year-old centre where she organises book-reading sessions, ayurvedic cooking and salsa classes besides meditation. Monday mornings are usually reserved for book readings but its USP is new-age music. At present, it has over 3,000 members who have paid an annual fee of

Rs 600 for some soul fare, says Chandra. On the anvil is a showroom at DLF in Gurgaon. Meanwhile, Chandra is improvising on her library and plans to set up a “spa of sorts for mothers”.
