Kolkata Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly has no plans to contest elections right now, wife Dona Ganguly told ‘The Indian Express’ on Tuesday.

She said she was being misinterpreted by some television channels regarding Ganguly's possibility of contesting an election on a Samajwadi Party ticket.

"I am distraught with the misinterpretation that some of the channels have been doing with my comments," said Dona.

Dona said, "I have categorically told some news channels who talked to me in Allahabad that Sourav Ganguly has no plans to contest elections right now. At least he will never do it from Uttar Pradesh. If it ever happens it will be Kolkata only. But till now he has no such plans."

Dona had been to Lucknow and then to Allahabad with her dance troupe for performances, and returned to Kolkata on Tuesday morning.

Sourav was busy with a Vijay Hazare ODI cricket match at the Eden Gardens and could not be contacted.

SP woos Ganguly by Mike Vig on 18 Feb 2009

Politicians use successful people. For them it’s a number game. After winning the seat, he has nothing to do really except pretend to be a politician. He is given no role because he is a misfit. Shatrughan Sinha is the prime example. Even after years being an MP, he still struggles for a role and even a seat of his choice. By that standard, Saurabh Ganguly is a kid. Amar Singh surely needs to win a seat and for him there is no safer guinea pig than Ganguly. What intrigues me is the way successful people either end up in Bolllywood or get used by politicians. If Ganguly is smart, ending up as politician’s trophy is the last thing he needs or Amar Singh will be another Ian Chapple in his 2nd innings of life!

MR.Sourav Ganguly in Politicks by Adv.Alby Raymond Parackal on 17 Feb 2009

Change of domain may never always be worthy; at least in some cases. Surely, Dada knows better things for him .

Politics is the last resort of scoundrels. by anand on 17 Feb 2009

For GOD sake please do not enter the politics. You know politics is the last resorts for the scoundrels and mafias. We the cricket loving millions of Indian still believe Mr.Ganguly as a gentleman and honest nationalist.Time being politics may sound very attractive because you are not accountable and easiest way to be billionaires.People like Saurav, Tendulkar or Dravid should not fall prey to wide net being thrown by mafia gang leader and deal master Amar Singh and Mulyam Singh. These scoundrels are bent up on manipulating indian political system to come to power and destroy the country.Right from the nuclear deal onwards this rogue Amar Singh is playing dirty politics to divide this country and rule thru back door .
