He said this in a response to a breach of privilege plea raised by Trinamool MLA Saugata Roy.
Claiming that the CPM members were preventing him from performing his duty towards his constituency, Roy moved the breach of privilege plea and demanded strict punishment against them.
Halim, however, said that the incident was not a breach of privilege since Roy was not performing any parliamentary duty.
Though the Speaker rejected Roy’s plea, he directed state Parliamentary Affairs minister Sailen Sarkar to see that when a meeting by a political party is on, members of other political outfits should not be allowed to come near the venue.
Narrating an incident that took place on March 16 at a village in his
Assembly constituency in Barrackpore, Roy said that while he was holding a meeting of his party’s worker, a CPM procession led by former MLA reached the place and raised slogans against him.
Roy further stated that his own party workers responded to it by raising counter-slogans, which went on for around 30 minutes.
“In front of the police, the CPM workers continued to threaten me and said that they would set fire to my car. I left the venue after things died down ,” Roy said. “I am not worried about my personal safety. But you can well imagine the condition of the ordinary Opposition workers in the state,”he added.
