Ludhiana, November 30 Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) of Simranjit Singh Mann formally split today, when the party’s senior vice president Daljit Singh Bittu, supported by a number of party leaders and workers, “removed” Mann from the party’s presidentship and formed a five member committee to run the party. Bittu claimed that his party was the real Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar).

The development took place at a function held at the historical Manji Sahib Gurdwara at Alamgir village, on the outskirts of the city today afternoon. The five members of the committee include Daljit Singh Bittu (chairman), Harinder Singh, a retired IPS officer, Gurjatinderpal Singh Bhikhivind, Kamikar Singh Mukandpur and Harpal Singh Cheema, who had been deported from USA and is in jail.

Speaking on the occasion, Daljit Singh Bittu said that Justice Ajit Singh Bains (retd), Giani Harinder Singh and Karamjit Singh, a journalist, will be the advisors of the party. Bittu asserted that the party’s structure will be revamped at the grassroot level soon, and all the formalities would be completed by Baisakhi 2009.

Bittu alleged that the old set up of the party was a one-man show, in which the party head had been working in a dictatorial manner. Due to this, the rank and file of the party was feeling demoralised, he alleged.
