Kolkata, July 11 Disappointed at ITC’s refusal, Mohammedan Sporting have turned to a marketing company to rope in a title sponsor.

They have been desperately seeking a sponsor since their association with Reliance ended last year.

This year, Sporting have qualified for the I-League. But the corporates are yet to show any interest.

Now, it’s over to a city-based marketing company to do something. A five-year contract has been signed with the company for this purpose.

Said a Sporting official: “ITC Group had shown serious interests. But the plans didn’t materialise. Maybe the club’s name is a factor. If that is the case then it is unfortunate as we have a rich heritage. Anyway, we have appointed a marketing company and hope to hear something before the I-League.”

He added: “We desperately need some financial support. Our budget has touched Rs 3 crore this year.”

Meanwhile, coach Shabbir Ali is happy with the 10-day conditioning camp and is looking forward to a good start to the season. Sporting play their first match of the Kolkata Premier League (KPL) against Railway FC on Sunday.

“Foreign recruits Mike Okoro, Adebayo and Theodore look to be in fine shape,” Ali said.
