"I have been playing a part in the peace process and I will continue doing my part. I may go to Pakistan shortly. I am talking with the authorities on both sides," he said during a visit in Kolkata.
On terrorism, he said "spiritual education brings a change of minds and hearts and this is how terrorism and all other forms of violence can be brought to an end."
Talking about his plans to meet Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse and LTTE leader V Prabhakaran to try and bring out a ceasefire, he said "I have appealed to both the governments (India and Sri Lanka) for a ceasefire. I will go there and meet Rajapakse and Prabhakaran separately to hold talks with them to bring about a ceasefire."
"There should be negotiation between LTTE and the Lankan government. I think they should sit down to talk. Military action is not an option for them. Violence needs to end."
He said he would make "all efforts" to get Sri Lankan Tamil refugees back to their country where they could lead dignified lives. He also wanted that their jobs, homes and land to be restored to them.
"The Sri Lankan government should compensate the Sri Lankan Tamil refugees for their losses and rehabilitate them," he said.
He said that his concern was for ordinary people, who were being put to severe hardships in the violence.

If today Rajneesh would have been alive and in case he would have made such suggestion the world would have turned upside down. Ravishankarji's forays into international politics and its timing are highly probable. The whole exercise seems to increase base, do ground work for international recognition and if possible why not give a try to influence vote bank. Last but not least today it is Sri Lanka, Pakistan ..... God forbid.....Taliban is watching ........
With due regards to the revered Guru, I would like to remind him that even our scriptures talk of, saam, daam, dand and bhed to deal with miscreants. Every God and Goddess has a weapon in one of the hands. Message is peace talks alone are not sufficient in dealing with rogues. Where necessary violence has to be used.
Good effort from a spiritual head. Every concerned must give full support to Spiritual leader and Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankarji.The problem goes this much of deeper because of politicians( not all) playing with the emotions of the poor Tamil people. Even MahatmaGandhi failed to induce the sense of human love and peaceful coexistence in their minds.There are some sensible people the otherside but a very invisible minority and they have great fears which keep them too lurking to mourn.

With all respect for SriSri Raviji for his desired peace mission I differ to most who expect any rapproachment or peace with brain-washed extremeists whose very existence depends upon violence/ terror/terrorlike activities.Guruji won't be welcome there and where people hate the name and the thinking/philosophy of others is foolish to hope anything like that.There had been many saints,Babas,Fakirs and Gurus with blessed spiritual powers in both religions(Hindus and Muslims,especially Sufis)but none could change the minds who are prevert and born to destruct and destroy.Their happiness lies only in that and they can't be influenced with love and peaceful lectures/gestures.They understand onlay same kind of language and needed to be bashed and treated the same way.They don't need pampering and love for they don't understand what it is.Otherwise for better relations between two countries need sensible,sincere and determined Govts Guruji does have own interests.Nothing of Selflessness

Guruji, your intention is highly commendable, but the terrorist should not be negotiated with, as this condones their action in a certain way. He should try to get the terrorists surrender, pay for their crimes and thenbe taken into society, if possible.

Spiritual education will end violence?I thought that's what was the problem... oh wait - that's not spiritual education - only ravi shankar's is.... Yeah right!What we really need is a rational policy, rational education based on bringing a good material life to common people - in other words Humanism. Thats the only system which has worked in lifting standards of living and bringing prosperity for the people in all ages in all places where prosperity has every been achieved.
It's not spiritualism that has created violence. It is greed for power and money that has created this situation.At least he is trying to do something for peace. For vote bank i think there are enough parties congress/bjp/bsp/sp/3rd front/4th front/5th front/6th front /7th front....(my God i lost my breath counting these fronts) to do this job. Shri Shri doesnt have to do this...and one more thing do a art of living course...every one has done that...5 crore people in 140 countries worldwide. not to leave these names NASA,ISRO,Reliance,BHEL,Symbian ,Mircosoft,google,sri lankan cricket team. With respect to Red Cross, you may not find that in some country but it's sure you will find Art of living center.

A laudable,bold and selfless step on the part of Guruji Ravi Shankar to foster peace and understanding between warring factions and see reasons that peace and harmony are the only solution to human delvelopment and eradication of poverty in the developing countries like India,SriLanka and Pakistan. They should not fall prey to the nefarious designs of other global war mongers who want to perpetuate their hegemony and supremacy in the world especially in South East Asia. These poor countries must concentrate instead on rural and urban development,improving literacy amongst their masses and enhance the health related facilties to their rural improverished lot, build infrastructures like good raods,improving rail/air connectivity. India also can help these countries to uplift their economy and technology by starting instituations like, IIT and other health institutions like ALL INDIA INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL INSTITUTE,PGI CHANDIGATH. india should be seen as a compassionate brother,not enemy.
