Srijita en route to double crown

Kolkata, March 27 Eighth seeded Md. Kamran Ali has set up a finals showdown with second seed Ishaque Eqbal in the Boys’ Singles under-12 finals at the AITA Talent Series tennis championship being played on the High Court Club grass courts. The Tournament is being organized by Joy Mukherjee. Kamran defeated seventh seed Md. Shaharyar Salim of Jamshedpur 6-2, 6-1 while Ishaque Eqbal beat fifth seed Nikunj Poddar 6-4,6-0.

 In the Boys’ Singles Under 16 top seed Sanjib Regius Keretta defeated qualifier Shukrit Guha 6-1,6-1 to reach the finals. Meeting him in the finals will be second seed Md. Azhar who had difficulty in beating third seed Akshat Vijay 7-5, 7-5.

Srijita Ghosh is in line of a double crown. In the Girls’ singles under-12 category she trounced Assam’s Protiksha Sharma 6-1, 6-0. She now meets Haryana’s Victoria Chahal. Victoria got the better of Mehak Sehani 6-4, 6-3. In the Girls’ singles under-16 Srijita defeated Ahana Banerjee 6-1, 6-0. In the second semi finals Aandrita Deb weathered a low blood sugar level before defeating Adrita Banerjee 6-4, 5-7, 6-0.

Enrico Pipero, former skipper of Indian team for the Federation Cup have consented to be special guest in the final.

Girls’ singles under-16 semifinals: Srijita Ghosh (WB) beat Ahana Banerjee (WB) 6-1,6-0; Aandrita Deb (WB) beat Adrita Banerjee (WB) 6-4,5-7,6-0. Boys’ Doubles Under 12 Pre Quarter Finals : Yashwant Gaggar (WB) & Rohit Mondal (WB) beat Nikunj Poddar (WB) & Aayush Poddar (WB) 4-0,4-2; Asim Akhtar (WB) & Shatanu Gupta (WB) beat Anant Arora (WB) & Ritwik Chatterjee (WB) 4-2,2-4,(10-6); Rishabh Shah (WB) & Debjit Charaborty (WB) beat Sumant Lenka (WB) & Tenzing Bhutia (WB) 5-3,5-4.
