St Mary’s, St Joseph reign supreme

Mumbai, March 16 Down by a goal, St. Mary’s, Mazgaon came back to score a brace and defeated Thakur Jr College in the Mega City Finals of the Mumbai FC Junior Champs played at the Police ground, Ghatkopar on Sunday.

In the girls under-16 final, St Joseph of Carmel defeated Canossa Convent 1-0. The boys under-14 final was won by St. Stanislaus, Bandra with a 2-0 win over Bhavan’s Wadia College, while the under-10 teams from St. Theresa’s High School won a lots of hearts while defeating Don Bosco, Matunga 2-0.

Thakur Junior college, which is adopted by the host Mumbai FC, went into the lead through Ashutosh Mishra, who was set up after a move by Daniel Samuel and Tyson Sequira.

St. Mary’s regrouped after the reversal and it was Elvis Fernandes who found the equalizer for the them, scoring of a measured cross from Clinton Mendes. The match winner was scored by Rohan Thomas.

Canossa Convent who dominated through out the tournament by thrashing their opponents and had not conceded a single goal were outplayed by St Joseph’s in the final. Tanya Thomas scored the winner.
