The star-studded ceremony, at Mumbai’s MMRDA Grounds, will showcase masala, dance, drama, action and emotion.
The continuing Bollywood trend of gripping, small-budget films finding space with action thrillers and multi-starrers will be on showcase. So Aamir Khan Production’s Delhi Belly, a dark comedy, leads the race with 19 nominations. Shaitan, a small-budget thriller, is a close second with 14 nominations followed by the Zoya Akhtar-directed Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara with 12.
“The Screen Awards nominations are incredible. It is obvious that they have gone beyond box-office success and looked at the content,” said filmmaker Anurag Kashyap.
Katrina Kaif’s will be the opening performance, with a high-octane version of Sheila Ki Jawani. The evening promises a scintillating array of star hosts: starting with Shahid Kapoor, followed by Anoushka Sharma, Sajid Khan, Vidya Balan, Priyanka Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan.
In a segment presented by SRK, the work and times of Dev Anand and Shammi Kapoor will be celebrated. Helen will make one of her rare appearances to present a special award.
While Chopra will dance to a medley of chart-busters, Balan — expected to do a hat-trick by lifting the Best Actress award for the third time — will bring alive The Dirty Picture.
