Stock markets closed for Moharum

Mumbai Indian financial markets are closed on Thursday for a holiday. Trading resumes on Friday.

On Wednesday, shares in Satyam Computer Services tumbled 77.7 per cent after the Indian outsourcing firm said it had overstated profits for many years, dragging the benchmark index 7.25 per cent lower to 9,586.88.

The partially convertible rupee closed at 48.80/81 per dollar on Wednesday, 0.3 per cent weaker than its previous close of 48.66/69.

The 10-year benchmark yield posted its biggest single-day rise in a decade to end 57 basis points higher at 5.87 per cent, a level it last tested in mid-December.
