New Delhi, October 12: A girl student allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a metro station in west Delhi this afternoon, police said.

The girl, in early-20s, scaled the platform of Janakpuri (West) Metro station which is above 20-25 feet above ground and jumped onto the road at around 3 pm, they said.

Metro officials and passers-by rushed her to a nearby hospital where her condition was stated to be stable.

She was returning to her home in Uttam Nagar from Naina Coaching Centre in Janakpuri.

Police said she left her bag and footwear on the platform before jumping.

Her identity was established from documents inside the bag, they said adding her parents were informed.

The reason why she attempted "suicide" was not immediately known.

A senior police official said it apparently seems to be a case of attempted suicide as the railing on the platforms are very high.

The official said they were investigating the case and police will take her to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for a medical examination.

However, Om Prakash, the victim's father, has told the police that his daughter did not attempt suicide but had slipped from the platform.
