Sources said that the department had issued directions to schools regarding the same.
“The aged are an important part of the society and should not be neglected. We aim to make them feel special through this programme. If we are able to bring a smile on their faces, we will consider the programme a success,” said S K Setia, Director Public Instructions (Schools).
He added that it is not mandatory for the schools to adhere to the programme. "We do not wish to impose anything. Such values and feelings come from within. Students can volunteer themselves," he said.
The school authorities will arrange regular visits to the old age homes on weekends, buses for which will be provided by Help Age India.
“It is a good step towards showing affection to the aged. They should not be deprived of respect and love, especially in the later part of life, when they need it the most,” said Ravi Raj Kaur, Principal, Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 35.
