Surat Over the issue of gangrape of a minor girl on June 12 in the city, Muslim women in Surat took out a rally on Monday and handed over a memorandum to the district collector, demanding the accused be punished publicly.

Several women gathered at Chowk Bazaar under the banner of Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan and Gulshan-e-Hind Mahila Foundation Trust in the afternoon.

They were seen carrying banners and placards and shouting slogans demanding strict punishment for the perpetrators of the crime.

Around 100 women participated in the rally that culminated at Nanpura Bahumali building outside the district collector’s office.

Five representatives met the collector and handed him the memorandum. The rally later went to Police Commissioner Shivanand Jha’s office where the representatives handed over another memorandum to him.

District convenor of Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan, Ruksana Pathan, said: “Surat is the economic capital of Gujarat and here, secularism can be seen. We believe the three accused should be punished according to Islamic law: they should be brought before public and stoned to death. The punishment should be such that nobody should dare commit such an act in future.”

And every government officials, up to the prime minister, must answer as to why such crimes are allowed to happen in India. They should answer and make promise as to how they will stop these crimes. And give a time line. After the timeline is up, their performance be reviews and they be punished for failing their duties. There was a great movie called Nayek a few years ago. Just like that.
