Kolkata, February 25 Farmers opposed to the setting up of Tata Motors small car factory at Singur today attacked the vehicle carrying the Singur Block Development Officer, Prasenjit Roy. Two employees of a private company, who are currently conducting a survey outside the project area, were also assaulted near Bajemelia and confined in a room before police rescued them.

Roy, later, filed a complaint with the Singur police station. But no one has been arrested so far. “We were returning from the project site around 1 pm today when some unidentified men threw stones at my car near Bajemelia. I had gone to the site to supervise the road construction work. The wind screen of my car was damaged in the attack,” said Roy.

The vehicle in which Jhantu Das (28) and Sudhangshu Dutta (60) were travelling were also attacked by the farmers. They were dragged out of the vehicle and were later confined to a clubroom at Bejemelia.

“I had informed the police about the incident. A police team came to the spot and rescued the employees. I have lodged a complaint with the police in connection with the incident,” said Roy. A senior police officer said that the attackers fled after locking up the employees. “We are looking for them,” said Priyabrata Bakshi, OC, Singur police station.
