Suzuki showcases Hayate, Swish 125

New Delhi Eyeing Indian mass motorcycle segment, Suzuki Motorcycle India (SMIPL) today launched Hayate, a 110cc bike, which will be priced over Rs 40,000, at the Auto Expo 2012 here.

SMIPL, a subsidiary of Japan's Suzuki Motor Corporation, also unveiled Swish125 -- a 'value packed scooter' – priced at Rs 45,431 (Delhi ex-showroom price) and is targeted at the young adults of urban India. The four-stroke engine scooter will be available at SMIPL dealers by March.

SMIPL Vice-President, Sales and Marketing Atul Gupta, said the Hayate, meaning 'Fresh Breeze', will be available in the market from April.

"During the three months time, we will work on the pricing ... it will be competitively priced," Gupta he said adding the price would not be less than Rs 40,000.

He said the company is undertaking capacity expansion and strengthening its network. SMIPL will be increasing its annual capacity from the current 3.6 lakh units to 5.4 lakh units by 2013.

"We have already invested Rs 400 crore ... The total investment which is going into the new products and capacity expansion is about Rs 100 crore," Gupta said.

He said the company is growing at 25-30 per cent and attempt would be maintained in the coming years.

While there has been slowdown in the two-wheeler segement in the country in the recent times, SMIPL expects the category to see an annual growth of 7-8 per cent.

The company said that the Hyate is directed at the emerging Indian markets where customers want a bike for daily commute and good mileage.

SMIPL, which started its India operation in February 2006, plans to add new model every year.

Models offered by the company, include Suzuki Access 125, Suzuki GS150R, Suzuki SlingShot Series and Hayabusa.
