Kolkata, April 9 West Bengal has no other alternative than to go ahead with industrialisation because that is how a state develops, Swraj Paul, India-born British industrialist reiterated on Wednesday.

The industrialist, who led a delegation of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association to Kolkata, was speaking at an interactive session of the delegation with members of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industries at a city hotel.

Yesterday, Paul had also remarked in Singur that industrialisation was the only option for the state. He, however, said today that announcing any new venture was not possible for him at the moment. “I cannot make any commitment here since I am a part of a parliamentary delegation to this city,” he said.

The British MP said, “Inflation is your(India) enemy number one. In fact, no growth can be of any use unless its fruits reach the grassroots. In the UK, we are very conscious about keeping inflation rate in check and the government of India should discuss it with the British government on how it does so.” He also said that educational institutions of both the UK and India should co-operate with each other for mutual benefit.
