Sources say the owner of Guru Kirpa Vaishno Dhaba, Jaswinder Singh, who has been booked by the local police under Sections 273/274 IPC and a case registered against him in police station, City Rajpura, had been preparing such synthetic milk for a long time now.
As much as 15,000 litres of synthetic milk, made out of urea and other spurious material, was seized today from a tanker at the dhaba, situated on the Rajpura bypass road.
After the seizure, Punjab Health Minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla visited the spot and issued a stern warning to those indulging in such acts, saying no one would be spared.
Accompanied by Health Secretary T.R. Sarangal, who also directed the health staff to increase the drive against such imposters, the Health Minister sought changes in the Food Adulteration Act for it to be more effective. She said the Food Adulteration Act should be made more effective by harsher punishment. She lamented that due to leniency in the Act, some violators managed to get away scot-free after trial.
Chawla said of the total 346 food samples taken so far by the health authorities in Punjab, 104 had failed the tests in various laboratories.
The Health Minister also announced setting up of a trauma centre in either Rajpura or Khanna along the National Highway to tackle any kind of emergency in the wake of an accident along the highway.
