While Dhoni could not hide his disappointment at India's batting collapse that saw them bowled out for 74 in 17.3 overs, Clarke was marveling at his team's ruthless performance that made captaincy so much easier for him.
Dhoni said the only good thing that his Twenty20 world champion side managed in Friday's match was winning the toss.
"That's the only good thing that we did. There are 11 players in the side and every guy has a responsibility. But unfortunately some of our guys failed in that today," a disappointed Dhoni said after the nine-wicket thrashing handed out to his team by ODI world champions.
The Indian skipper did not want to make Yuvraj Singh's absence an excuse for the loss but admitted that the hard-hitting left-hander was crucial for the side.
"Yuvraj is important for us in Twenty20," he said.
On Sachin Tendulkar being left out for the match, Dhoni clarified that it was the master batsman's own decision to sit out of the game and take rest.
"I asked him whether he wanted to play today and get some practice ahead of the Indian Premier League but he said he wanted to rest so I said 'OK'," Dhoni revealed.
The Indian skipper rejected suggestions that the win has given Aussies a psychological edge ahead of the ODI tri-series also featuring Sri Lanka.
"This is completely different from the ODI series. Sachin will be back for that and so will be Yuvraj. We hope to start it positively next week," he said.
Clarke, who was adjudged man of the match for effecting a brilliant run out besides making unbeaten 37, was ecstatic at having finally managed to upstage India in the shortest format of the game.
"We had a look at all the Indians before the game. Our bowlers studied their batsmen and we executed all our plans well. Our guys did a fantastic job," Clarke said.
"We were up for the game and what a fantastic performance we put on," he gushed.
Retiring wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist, for whom the match was a Twenty20 swan song, said he was relieved to be going out after beating India.
"It's nice that we have finally beaten India in twenty20. It's nice to finish my (T20) career with a win," he said.
Gilchrist also lavished praise on Michael Clarke for his stout leadership.
"Clarke's captaincy was fantastic. I think we are getting a glimpse what is there in the future," he said.

Hi Hello Friend I am new friend My name is Prashant Thakur
i love mahi
The credit for this win is entirely Clarke's, i.e., the absence of Ponting from the team. The morale of the Australian team was high after a proven cheat and liar that Ponting is was dropped from the team, and Clarke, although has his limitations, is a much better option for Australia if they want to maintain their top status in the game.
India was beaten by a better ,well prepared and committed TEAM. BCCI money cannot buy that. The Australians used junior international players with the older more experienced to good effect (Gilly is 36).
Let me help you fire up the hunger the your bellies and I mentioned in my earlier mail..Question-One of you may be a good singer but have any of you had an opportunity to sing with the great Asha Bhosle? Answer- No!! But Brett Lee did.Question-Some of you may a talented actors, Sreesanth is a very fine dancer, but have you had a substantial role in a Bollywood flick?Answer- Small roles!! Yes!! Not a role like Brett Lee in a new upcoming film.Question- Are you all confident of having a substantial role to play in the IPL teams?Demand the mega dollars?Answer- There are doubts as regards all of you but the Aussies are confident despite whatever bad mouthing they give you and however much their cricketing crowd screams "boo" at you.Come on!! Come on!! You all are great-you have the fire-visualize the millions looking up at you. You are the ones who decide whether cricket fans in India have a good or bad day. You are their daily inspiration and hope of good fortune. You all are in their dreams and prayers. Millions aspire to be YOU.I hope all the touring cricketers can read this message and be so inspired because we all have very hih hopes in you. Special message for Harbhajan- CHIN UP, DO NOT BE SCARED OF THE 'BOO". CHAK DE PHATTE!! TO ALL OF YOU
The reason for the loss-quite simple.Indian team should have more focus, study your opponents and do not play like millionaires that they all are. Next time they should have the hunger for a win in their bellies.
I do not think that we should read too much in this defeat. It is only that the Indian Twenty20 team did not enough practice together so that they could play like a team. There is nothing wrong in dropping Ganguly, Dravid, Laxman and even Tendulkar for a twenty20 match. After all they are all ageing players and Twenty20 is not for ageing players.Ponting also did not play for Australia. A stiff back is only an excuse for not playing lest age would be a hindrance in the shortest version of the game. I think that there should have been a bigger gap between the tests and the shorter versions of the game and a few practice matches especially when a number of players had to be replaced. It is very difficult for any team to play international cricket of the highest standard without few practice matches for the players to gel as a unit. In absence of practice matches, the quality of performance is bound to suffer. However, perhaps on account of the cramped international cricket calendar, teams are having less and less time for practice matches resulting in spineless performances like that of India today. I am sure that this performance would boost the team to do better in the ODIs and even if they do not fare well, I would not write of this team or Dhoni's captiancy as there is still a lot of international cricket to be played before the next 20-20 world cup and the ODI world Cup. Good luck team India.
Don't you see that idiotness of Dhoni was setup for failure. Even Tendulkar did not insist on playing, Sehwag had run-out. Sehwag should have been the captain here. I meant Saurav, Dravid, Sachin, VVS L are all senior experience players who have played a lot internationally, In their company we should have tried Rohit, Gambhir, Praveen... and kicked out the one's that could not perform. The seniors club did not allow juniors to be tried before and we paid penalty for trying these juniors too late and thus we were setup to loose.
It is not bad bating, it bad risk management and planning by BCCI/DHONi. Ozzie planned very hard to win before 80,000 crowd (it is equivalent to 10 lakh from India on basis of intellect)Statistics will tell that Yuvi will have chances to fail again when he returns, can we live with him failing in next match when he returns, this is called Risk management that BCCI did not do with present selection!!!Sure we needed to try T20 internally with best combination and simulated Ozzie pitches in INdia before coming and playing the well planned Ozzie!!!!MOST UNPROFESSIONAL bcci. ozZIE tried it all out before with NZ and internally. They mixed it all with best senior hitters and bowlers that could nail India...because some Seniors have played in Ozzie pitches more than junior... Slowly bring in all the juniors as we find/retain best among them and they play more matches (as senior have recently in Australia). You cannot re-try Uttapa, Dinesh (surprise we have no wicketkeeper other than Dinesh and Dhoni).
.....win 1 2 make millions.that 2 they win by match fixing.shameless bla bla bla...
beat them any number of times,it does not make any difference.they loose 10
Inexperience of the players did cost us the Twenty20 game but at the same time they would have definitely gained good experience about playing conditions. I was thinking may be VVS or Dravid could have helped them in stemming the loss of early wickets. But I then realized it is not a one dayer and so would not have mattered that much. May be if a batsman like them could have scored faster and controlled, possibly it would have helped. This is the reason I think we need atleast one of them on the one day team to stop the fall of quick wickets as they can play it out on one end even though at the cost of slowing down the game.
We OVER-RISKED for failure and did not take calculated risks by having fewer new players withno experience on Ozzie Soil and wickets.Look at Ozzie, they were very calculated in risk taking, tried the proven hitters against India such as Gilcrist, Hussey, Symonds with combination of winners of T20 with NZ.
What is use of so much BCCI money when we don't prepare our young players and put them on Suli.India were out-gunned, out-thought and out-planned by OzzieOzzie have played many T20 behind the scenes with NZ and internally within Australia to make sure they win this one and find out the best players for T20. Since seniors had played with Ozzie more than Juniors, certainly there was a NEED for Mix in team until Juniors had enough practice against Ozzie. Juniorswere left withiout guidance, were the juniors setup for failure. If they look good in T20, ICC will want more of them. Bracken,Noffke and other Ozzie players don't come out of blue's. How many T20 India has played to try out our best young players in fast indoor pitch and spin pitches?????????Bringing back DADA or Yuvi will not cut it fully, all these new guys in T20 were not used to Ozzie pitches or bowling except Sehwag/Dhoni/Dinesh consider Irfan as the allrounder ... SO who needs to go?Dhoni?Sresanth?None of these new players like ROhit Sharma were tried before on Ozzie soild recently, they tried Pankaj SIngh and VRV whom the sent back. Trying these players would have givenus some exercise to know their worth. Was Dhoni's inexperience setup for failure with Tendulkar and Yuvi refusing to play and Sehwag being run out. They don't have a second T20 to even it out.Remember in SA, we found Joginder Sharma with slow pace was better than Sreesanth in crucial overs!!! Ozzie studied all this while we were shouting milk-milk. .We have given so many chances to Dinesh and ofcource to Dhoni who is better than him. ANy other wicketkeeper other than Dhoni and Kathik? This is how bad Indian selection has been for such long time.

Now Dhoni will understand that fielding is not all for any cricket match be it ODI, T-20 or Test. A team need to score runs to defend that. Also whatever may be the talent of youngsters, there is always a place for experience and inabsence of inform seniors, what may happen a team made of nursery kids. Dhoni will now come out of T-20 WC hangover and then after return to India, his wings will be clipped by BCCI and make him a powerless captain. Or he would be made to resign by fans.
